Question Response Comments/Notes
1. Pubic Schools in Montana are overfunded: S
2. Pubic Schools in Montana are underfunded: O
3. Pubic Schools in Montana are adequately funded: S
4. Parental choice in education should be expanded through tax credits, education savings accounts, vouchers, and other means to allow children to attend any school of their or their parents choice: SS
5. Montana should allow public charter schools: SS
6. Parents should be allowed to home school their children without additional state regulation: SS
7. The teaching of "Critical Race Theory" (CRT) should be banned in Montana public schools: SS
8. Comprehensive sex education, beginning as early as kindergarten, should be allowed in public elementary schools: O* Our public educational experience should produce good people as well as good American citizens, and we must support and protect parents' role in their students' educational choices. I taught high school Economics, American Government, History and Psychology for forty-five years. I believe in public education. But to paraphrase an old axiom, when a good cause becomes a movement, it will eventually descend into a racket. It is time for parents to reassert control of the public educational system.
9. Income taxes in Montana are too high: S
10. Property taxes in Montana are too high: SS
11. Corporate taxes in Montana are too high: S
12. The 2nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution allows all citizens to own firearms for self-protection: SS
13. Global warming is a problem requiring increased regulation: SO
14. Environmental regulations in Montana are too stringent: S
15. Environmental regulations in Montana are NOT stringent enough: O* Governmental policies on taxes and regulations must not determine winners and losers in the economic arena. Taxes are necessary to provide public services and regulations are necessary to establish a level playing field for all participants. But tax policies and regulations that inhibit the people's ability to pursue their own happiness, prosperity and posterity must be eliminated.
16. Montanans should not be discriminated against or treated differently because of their vaccine status: SS* As a co-sponsor of HB702, I strongly support the fundamental right of the people to be in charge of their own healthcare. When government makes the healthcare decisions, liberty is gone. The Federal government should play no role in the people's healthcare and if the States choose to erect a safety net, it must include the patient's freedom of choice.
17. Doctor assisted suicide should be legal in Montana: SO
18. Abortion should be banned in ALL stages of pregnancy: SS
19. Abortion should be banned during all stages of pregnancy, with the exceptions for rape and incest: SO
20. Abortion should be banned only after a heartbeat is detected (around 6 weeks): SO
21. Abortion should be banned only after the first trimester (12 weeks): SO
22. Abortion should be banned only when a fetus becomes viable outside the womb (20 weeks): SO
23. Abortion should be banned only after the 2nd trimester (28 weeks): SO
24. Abortion should never be banned, not at any stage of pregnancy: SO
25. The Montana Constitution should be amended to ban abortion: SS
26. Infanticide (infants born alive with physical abnormalities, including infants born as a result of a botched abortion) should be banned in Montana. SS
27. Companies and individuals should be allowed to opt-out of the abortion related mandates contained in Obamacare: SS* Modern science has determined that upon conception, a new and distinct D.N.A. has been created. DNA is used to determine personhood in a variety of legal instances, such as criminal law and paternity. Therefore, upon conception, a new person has been created. The 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution states that, "No State shall deprive any person of life, liberty or property without due process of law." Therefore, abortion of any person is definitively un-Constitutional. Claiming that a person's "right to privacy" allows the murder of a person is not only legally vacuous, but immoral.
28. Transgender athletes should be allowed to compete against athletes of the opposite sex: SO
29. Doctors should be banned from performing sex-change procedures on minors: SS
30. Homosexuals and transgender people should be allowed to adopt children: S
31. Non-discrimination laws should be expanded to protect sexual orientation and gender identity in the same way that race, creed, nationality, and religion are protected: SO
32. Montana’s marriage laws should be changed to reflect the recent legalization of same-sex marriage by the U.S. Supreme Court: SO* As the sponsor of HB112, which is now law in Montana, athletes participating in public funded athletic sports must participate in their sex identified at birth. I also sponsored HB113, which failed by only a few votes in the Senate after decisively passing the House. It banned chemical and surgical alterations of a child's sex in Montana. Texas has just recently passed a bill very similar and states that "sexual mutilation of a minor is child abuse."
